Dr Liam WestMBBS, FACSEP

Dr Liam West is an experienced Specialist Sport & Exercise Medicine (SEM) Physician who has gained valuable sports medicine skills from a variety of sporting environments – across amateur, national and international levels (see below) – and he enjoys using this experiential learning to help all of his MHK clinic patients. He has a passion for using a balance between exercise-based and appropriately indicated injection rehabilitation methods to return patients of all ages and abilities to their physical activity or sporting goals after injury. He has expertise and interests in holistically treating osteoarthritis as well as other muscle, bone and tendon issues, in addition to all other injuries that can occur whilst being physically active.

Within elite sport, Liam has worked internationally for the England U16 Football (Soccer) team, the Australian Diamonds Netball team & for Athletics Australia. He has provided medical services at international events including the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the 2018 Invictus Games and the 2022 Commonwealth Games as the Australian Athletics Doctor. Currently the Head Doctor for the Hawthorn Football Club (AFL), he’s also previously worked across the sporting codes of Soccer, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Mixed Martial Arts, Horse Racing and Disability Sport. He has balanced this clinical work with academic roles with sporting organisations and academic journals to ensure he stays up to date with his practice.

Outside of work, Liam enjoys chasing his two young (yet rapidly growing) sons around the garden, trying out new restaurants with his wife and running. Whilst his home gym is too often neglected, he feels this helps him empathise with his busy patients with how hard it can be to balance life and the need to rehabilitate injuries!!!
